How to Convert AVI to MPEG

Audio Video Interleaved or commonly known as AVI is format used for multimedia files. Often the AVI files are converted into a more compressed scheme, called MPEG or Motion Picture Experts Group. MPEG is another file format used to store audio and video data. The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and International Electro-technical Commission (IEC) are responsible for creating and publishing standards for various technologies. These standards usually include standards for video formats used on internet, for television broadcasts and in media based DVDs.
To convert AVI file into MPEG you need to follow the steps in the following tutorial.
Required Items
- Quick Time Component Software
Steps
- First you need to download the Quick Time Component Software and install it on your system.
- Now open the ‘Project Folder Dialog’ box and choose the ‘Create Project’ option. Give an appropriate name to your newly created project folder. Generally, the software will save your project with default settings, but you can change the settings according to your requirement by visiting the ‘Preferences Panel’.
- Here you need to choose settings according to the MPEG format, as you are targeting to change to this format.
- Next, you need to add the movie which you want to convert. For this, click on the ‘Movies’ tab and drag movie of your choice. You can also delete the movie from the playlist by simply selecting the certain movie and hitting the ‘Delete’ button.
- Now you are ready to hit the ‘Convert’ button. Remember, the conversion time may take too long depending on the size of the movie file.
- The window showing the progress will automatically disappear, once the conversion is completed.
Tips & Warnings
Don’t turn off or exit the program while the conversion process is still active. You need to restart the conversion process in any of the case.
