How to Convert DVD to MPEG

DVD is a high quality file format standard which cab be ripped to a PC. There are few drawbacks associated with them like they have a large size and obscure file name. So, users often find it convenient to convert the DVD files to MPEG formats on order to reduce their file sizes thus, make them appropriate for portable devices. Converting to MPEG will also let users to edit video files.

Steps
- Download DVDx from internet and install it on your system. You must have XviD or DivX drivers installed on your system.
- Open the DVDx program by double clicking on the exe file or on its shortcut on the desktop.
- If you have your DVD saved on the hard disk you can rip it from there, otherwise, insert the DVD into the DVD drive. In order to open the DVD files already saved on your computer, click on ‘Open IFO’ to choose your hard disk files as source. In the folder selection box, select the option VTS_01_0.IFO in the DVD target directory on the hard drive. Your files will load automatically as a source in the ‘Input Dialog Box’.
- If you have so many files on the DVD, you need to choose the files appear on the pop up box which you want encode. You have to choose the root menu and file for each file on the DVD, in case you have more than one file to rip.
- On the top left section of the Input Setting Dialog, select a suitable audio track from the Program Chain Index and hit OK.
- Next, open the ‘Output Settings Dialog Box’ from the Setting menu. You have to select MPEG format on the output options. Also set the resolution size and audio quality settings.
- If you don’t want your file to split into another file, select the file size to infinite.
- Now you have to select the destination for the output profile. Give a suitable file name into the destination folder and Click OK to save the destination folder for the output file.
- Now you are ready to hit the ‘Red Record Button’ which you can find at the bottom of the window on the right side. On hitting the Record Button, the encoding will start.
- Wait for encoding to finish.
Tips & Warnings
- Always care about the copyright law in your country.
- If an authentication drive error appears, close the program and right click on the DVDx icon on the desktop and open it as administrator,
If you want to rip more than one file, select each file separately which you want to encode to MPEG from the DVD menu.
