Meter is a measurement of length. Metric rulers and tape measures usually give you the measurement in meters. Meter is divided into 100 centimeters and 100 centimeters further divided into 100 meters. We can express it as 1/100th of a meter. Similarly, millimeters are expressed as 1/1000th of a meter. More precisely, we can say that 25.4 or 25 4/100th millimeters are equal to one inch. A common guiding principle is to remember that one inch is equal to 2 ½ centimeters.
Required Items
You will need following things to convert millimeters to inches:
- Metric ruler
- Imperial ruler
Steps
- Using tape measure or ruler, gauges the length. In case you are using metric ruler, you need to convert the measure into imperial (inch) measure.
- You can convert the reading which is in millimeters to the inches by using the formula, i.e. total reading in millimeters divided by 25.4. For example, the reading shows 2540 mm of length. You need to divide this figure by 25.4:
2540 mm/25.4 = 100 inch
- You can also convert the reading from inches to millimeters by reversing the process, i.e. multiply the measurement taken in inches by 25.4:
100 inchesx25.4 = 2540 mm
