MPEG-4 or MP4 is a popular file format used significantly for the multimedia files and was first introduced by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). MP4 format is used particularly for the storage of digital audio and video data. However, this file system can also be used for the subtitles and still images. The popularity of MP4 files has increased in last few years with the introduction of portable devices and other latest iPods and PSP users. Another positive point of MP4 file system is that it provides a file compression (MPEG-4 compression) through which you can store DVD quality movies at extremely small size.
DivX is a product of DivX, Inc. formerly known as DivX Networks, Inc. DivX codec has become popular since the time it hits the market as it has the ability to compress bigger video segments into relatively smaller size without losing much of its visual quality. Generally, DivX codec makes use of lossy MPEG-4 Part 2 compression, which balances the quality of the video against the file size for utility. This codec is also associated with the ripping process where audio and video multimedia is transferred to hard disk for transcoding.
