Windows Media Video, most commonly known as WMV is a popular video file format used to store compressed video data and is used for several proprietary codec designed by Microsoft.
MPEG is another compressed video file format which is compatible with most of the devices such as DVD players. - WMV file or files to be converted
Steps
These steps are given in accordance with the Advanced X Video Converter. However, if you want to use any other conversion software, you can go for it.
- First install the Advanced X Video Converter program on your system and launch the program.
- On the main window of the program, click on the ‘Add Task’ button.
- In the ‘Task’ window, choose the option ‘All to MPEG-1/MPEG-2’.
- Now, click on the ‘Add File’ button to add the WMV files which you want to convert to MPEG format. The source file can be DAT, DivX, AVI, WMV, MPEG, ASF and Xvid.
- Now set the output profile to MPEG.
- Next, you need to select the folder where you want your converted files to be saved.
- Hit the ‘Edit Profile’ button and select MPEG as an output format. If you don’t want to have audio on the converted file, highlight ‘Disable Audio’.
- Mostly, the program will automatically set the width, height and frame rate in accordance with the source file. However, you can set it manually as well.
- You can change the width, height and frame rate in the ‘Setting’ tab.
Tips & Warnings
- Before adjusting the resolution, make certain that you won’t set the resolution larger than source file resolution. This will lessen the quality of the video. You need to set the resolution, keeping in view the source resolution.
- Before using any program, first get yourself familiar with all the options of the software.
- There are so many conversion software applications available on the internet. Do some research and select the application that suits your requirements. If you are using MAC or Linux then you need to look for the programs compatible with these operating systems.
- During the conversion, avoiding exiting the program or turning off your system. If you do so, you need to restart the conversion right from the beginning again. There is no way around to resume the conversion after shutting down the program or system.
