PDF files are designed to represent the two dimensional documents, independent of the application software, operating system and hardware. On many occasions, you may need to convert a word file to PDF for protecting your file from manipulation through editing of any sort. In order to convert a word file to a PDF file, you need to have conversion software installed on your system. - A text file created and saved in Microsoft Office Word
Steps
Although there are many software utilities are available for this sort of conversion from which you can choose one of your choice and requirement, here we are giving steps for Universal Document Converter.
- Download and install the Universal Document Converter software on your system. In order to avoid any virus or malware, always download the software from its official website.
- Open the Microsoft Word document that you want to convert. Under the ‘File’ tab on the main menu, select the ‘Print’ option.
- From the printer’s list of options, choose Universal Document Converter and then go on to the ‘Properties’ button.
- On the settings panel, open ‘Load Properties’.
- Next, click on the ‘Open’ option and select ‘Text Document to PDF.xml.
- Now press the ‘OK’ button in Microsoft Word Print dialog. This will start the conversion process.
- After the conversion process is completed, the output file would be saved in the My Documents/UDC Output Files folder. You can change the destination folder as well before starting the conversion.
- Your converted file would be in a PDF format and can be accessible through Adobe Acrobat or any other program that will support PDF files.
Tips & Warnings
- Make sure that the file you want to convert is complete and you don’t want to edit any information in it. A PDF file is a read only file so you cannot edit it later. If any editing is required after the file is converted, you need to make editing in the source file and convert it again.
- If you are using Linux based operating system, you may not need to install any conversion software because the Open Office editor has the option to export the file as a PDF. Just click on the export to PDF option and save the file in the specific folder after the conversion is complete.
